Nynashamn (Stockholm), Sweden

I’m back with information about the ports from my last contract on Regal Princess (the worst, so far, but that’s a lot of text for another post).

Why I haven’t been posting in more than a year? Because … baby. But she’s almost walking now so you’ll see more of me from now on.
Let me tell you about Nynashamn in Sweeden. If you plan to go there, the currency is the Swedish Kroner, but you can also use euros.

For all my sailor frinds (heey!), be aware that is a tender port. You can find here the Nynasham City Centre for shopping (clothes, music, jewellery, crafts and so on). The Hop on Hop Off Bus is free for the Crew from the Port, which is a big like! But you cand also walk for 15-20 mins from Tender Pier to Nynashamn town (just follow the Blue Line). It is very easy to get around, Stockholm is one hour by car or train. Trains depart every 30 mins and it’s only $19 or 115KR each way.

Another best tip that I got from the crew is this list with the best free wi-fi:
•  Library (Bibliotek) Sign up with the clerk for 1 hour of usage time on their desktop.
•  There is a free Wi-Fi zone in the Fishing Harbour. You can get at code at the Tourist Centre. There are also computers with free Internet access at the Tourist Centre and the library in the city centre.

It’s a small town, with population: 13,510 (in 2010)

Stuff to see in and around Nynasham:

– Gamla Stan is one of the largest and best preserved medieval city centers in Europe, boasting a wealth of pedestrian-friendly streets lined with stores full of handicrafts, antiques, art galleries and cafés.

– Vasa Museum was built to house the Vasa, a 226-foot-long warship that sank on its maiden voyage in the middle of Stockholm in 1628. Today, it’s the most visited museum in Scandinavia.

– Royal Palace which was once home to the King of Sweden, is one of the largest palaces in Europe with over 600 rooms and several museums.

– Armoury – The Royal Armoury houses a collection of different items including clothes, horse carriages and more which has belonged to different royalties over the centuries.

– City Hall – Stockholm City Hall, with its spire featuring the golden Three Crowns, unique art treasures and magnificent banquettes, is one of the most famous silhouettes in the city and a popular tourist attraction.

 – Stockholm Ice Bar – The world’s first permanent ice bar is kept at a crisp 23°F all year round. The interior, including the spectacular glasses, is made of pure, clear ice from the Torne River in northern Sweden.
